What is Exploring forces

Exploring forces What happens when more than one force is acting on a body? Consider the example of a game of tug-of-war. In this game, two opposite teams pull a rope in opposite directions. A red ribbon is tied at the middle of the rope and the ground marked accordingly. The team which is able to pull the ribbon towards itself wins the game. Here, the rope experiences two forces which are acting in opposite directions. To understand the motion of the rope, • net force is the difference between two forces. • the net force acts in the direction of the larger force. • if two forces are acting in the same direction, they add up. The strength of a force is expressed by its magnitude. Magnitude is a numerical value with an appropriate unit. In addition to the magnitude, a force always has a direction. The direction of force is away from us when we push something and towards us when we pull something. Thus, a force is expressed by its magnitude and dir...
